Sunderland are reportedly considering a bid for Spanish defender Jordi Figueras.
Steve Bruce has been impressed by the £3m-rated player's performance at Rayo Vallecano this season.
The 24-year-old is currently on a season-long loan from Russian side Rubin Kazan.
The Black Cats were also linked with a move for Swiss striker Admir Mehmedi this week.
