Sunderland manager Dick Advocaat has reportedly added Kevin Nolan to a list of possible targets ahead of Tuesday's transfer deadline.
Nolan is available on a free transfer after leaving West Ham United by mutual consent earlier this week to bring to an end his four-year spell at Upton Park.
Advoccat has made it clear that he is keen to strengthen his squad over the next few days following two losses and a draw from their opening three games, and The Mirror claims that the Dutchman is considering a move for the 33-year-old, who played for rivals Newcastle United between 2009 and 2011.
Nolan has also been linked with Cardiff City this week, but Bluebirds boss Russell Slade has dismissed suggestions that the midfielder will arrive in the Welsh capital.
Sunderland visit Aston Villa on Saturday.
