Highly-rated forward Max Clayton has joined Sunderland on trial.
The England Under-19 international is currently available on a free transfer after deciding to depart Crewe Alexandra at the end of last season.
Crewe had offered the attacker a new three-year contract, but the youngster rejected the offer to seek pastures new, potentially in the Premier League.
It is understood that the 19-year-old will spend the next couple of weeks with the Black Cats, who are one of a number of clubs believed to be interested in the talented Englishman.
