Sunderland boss Paolo Di Canio is eyeing a summer swoop for Lazio defender Modibo Diakite, according to a report.
The 26-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and the Italian feels that the centre-back will boost his defensive options at the Black Cats, reports the Daily Star.
Sunderland are looking to recruit defenders at the end of the season after Di Canio vowed to change "everything" at the club as they just escaped relegation to the Championship.
The Black Cats have also been linked with a move for Maritimo defender Valentin Roberge as well as Portuguese winger Diogo Viana.
