Sunderland manager Gus Poyet has reportedly made Shaun Wright-Phillips one of his major transfer targets for the January window.
The 32-year-old is currently part of the Queens Park Rangers squad, although he has not featured for Harry Redknapp's side since November.
However, with his contract due to expire in the summer, Poyet is keen to sign the former England international in a cut-price deal, according to The Mirror.
Wright-Phillips joined the R's from Manchester City in 2011.
