Sunderland have reportedly made contact with Stoke City regarding the availability of Peter Odemwingie.
The 34-year-old has spent much of the last 18 months on the sidelines with a knee injury.
However, having recently returned to fitness, manager Sam Allardyce is keen to offer the Nigerian regular match action at the Stadium of Light, according to The Guardian.
The report adds that the Black Cats would initially look to sign Odemwingie on a six-month loan deal.
The attacker joined Stoke two years ago from Cardiff City in an agreement that saw Kenwyne Jones move in the opposite direction.
