Sunderland appear to have missed out on the signature of Lazio right-back Luis Pedro Cavanda, with the defender's agent revealing that his client has committed his future to the Serie A giants.
Black Cats boss Paolo Di Canio has been very active in the transfer market this summer, having already recruited eight players, including Cavanda's former Lazio teammate Modibo Diakite.
The agent of both players, Ulisse Savani, had claimed that Di Canio was attempting to reunite the pair in his Sunderland back line, but has now confirmed that Cavanda will instead be signing a fresh deal to remain with his current Rome employers.
Savini told Lalaziosiamonoi.it: "There is an agreement with Lazio, tomorrow or Wednesday. We will sign the new contract until 2018."
The 23-year-old Belgian youth international became a first-team regular at the Stadio Olimpico last year following season-long loans at Torino and Bari respectively.
