Swansea City manager Garry Monk has moved to deny rumours linking midfielder Jonjo Shelvey with a move away from the club in the summer transfer window.
Reports have claimed that Shelvey is a target for Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew, but Monk said that the player is vital for Swansea's future if they are to improve.
"Jonjo is going nowhere," Monk told Wales Online. "The club cannot afford to let a player of that calibre go because he is one for the future of this club.
"He is an important player with potential and those are the ones we want at the club and we are in a healthy enough position not to have to sell."
Swansea secured their Premier League survival with the 4-1 win over Aston Villa last weekend.
