Sweden Under-17s will attempt to secure their place in the European Under-17 Championship knockout rounds when they face Italy Under-17s on Monday.

Italy have already sealed their passage to the quarter-finals after claiming maximum points from their first two matches.

Match preview

Sweden are hoping to reach the knockout rounds for the first time since 2018, having failed to make it out of the group stage in their last two appearances in 2019 and 2022.

Although they have had to settle for two draws, Sweden will enter the final group match in second place with a slender one-point advantage over Poland and Slovakia.

After playing out a goalless affair against Slovakia, they gave up the lead on a couple of occasions to draw 2-2 in Friday's meeting with Poland.

Genesis Antwi's opener was followed by a Jakub Adonis equaliser, before Fred Bozicevic saw his effort cancelled out by Michael Izuwanne.

Sweden will progress to the quarter-finals with a win, but a failure to secure all three points will leave them at risk of being leapfrogged by either Poland or Slovakia.

Despite having one match left to play, Italy have already secured their place in the quarter-finals, ensuring that they will avoid a repeat of last year's group-stage exit.

They began the competition with a 2-0 win over Poland, before they repeated that scoreline in Friday's game against Slovakia.

The AC Milan duo of Francesco Camarda and Mattia Liberali grabbed a goal apiece to lead Italy to all three points on matchday two.

Having established a four-point lead over second-placed Sweden, Italy have already wrapped up top spot and will have one eye on a quarter-final clash against one of the teams from group D.

While they may have little to play for, Massimiliano Favo's side will still be keen to extend their unbeaten run to six matches.

Team News

Sweden boss Roger Franzen will have to decide whether to stick with Hammarby goalkeeper Elton Fischerstrom Opancar or recall Eintracht Frankfurt's Nils Ramming, who started the goalless against Slovakia on matchday one.

Harry Hilvenius will resume his central-defensive partnership with Bleon Kurtulus, while Rasmus Nafors Dahlin and Antwi are set to operate as the two full-backs.

Meanwhile, Italy defender Christian Garofalo will serve a one-match ban after receiving his second yellow card of the tournament.

Garofalo is expected to be replaced by Andrea Natali, who is set to return from his own suspension to partner Federico Nardin in central defence.

Having seen his side secure top spot, Favo could be tempted to rotate his squad and give starting opportunities to the likes of Andrea Orlandi, Emanuel Sala, Thomas Campaniello and Lamine Ballo.

Sweden Under-17s possible starting lineup:
Fischerstrom Opancar; Nafors Dahlin, Hilvenius, Kurtulus, Antwi; Lahdo, Busuladzic; Jonsson, Redkin, Bozicevic; Andersson

Italy Under-17s possible starting lineup:
Longoni; Ballo, Nardin, Natali, Cama; Coletta, Mantini, Di Nunzio, Orlandi; Camarda, Campaiello

We say: Sweden Under-17s 1-2 Italy Under-17s

Even if Favo decides to make changes, we still believe that Italy will have enough quality in their side to claim a narrow win over Sweden in Monday's final group game.
