Sweden open their Group F Olympic campaign with a comfortable 4-1 win against South Africa.

Sweden have opened up their Group F Olympic campaign with a comfortable 4-1 win against South Africa.

It was Sweden who made a storming start to the match and they took the lead after just seven minutes when Nilla Fischer turned the ball home from close range.

It was so nearly two just moments later, but Marie Hammarstrom could only strike the post from inside the box.

Sweden did secure their second after 20 minutes when Hammarstrom found Lisa Dahlkvist, and the striker slipped the ball home from close range.

It got worse for South Africa just seconds later when Lotta Schelin produced a cool finish into the corner.

South Africa were not without their chances, and Andisiwe Mgcoyi so nearly met a Portia Modise cross 10 minutes before the break.

Sweden started the second period in complete control, but we had to wait until the hour mark for the first chance of the second 45 minutes.

The chance brought a goal, and it was Modise who struck a powerful effort from all of 40 yards to cut the score to 3-1.

Sweden restored their three-goal advantage, however, when Schelin added her second after 63 minutes.

Sweden continued to dominate possession in the latter stages, but they could not add to the scoreline.
