Swindon Town are reportedly about to hand a life ban to a fan who ran onto the pitch at the County Ground and attacked Leyton Orient goalkeeper Jamie Jones.
The intruder was arrested after being dragged off the pitch, with his team eventually falling to a 3-1 defeat on home turf.
He squared up to the 24-year-old keeper and threw a right-handed punch before being tackled by stewards without Jones retaliating.
"Wiltshire Police can confirm that a 26-year-old man from Swindon was arrested earlier today at the County Ground during the Swindon Town game against Leyton Orient," said a police spokesperson.
"He was arrested on suspicion of pitch invasion and remains in custody at Gablecross Police Station, Swindon, at this stage.
"Police enquiries are ongoing. It would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage."
The defeat leaves the Robins seventh in League One, while three points for the O's keep them top of the table.
