Gateshead have opened up a two-goal lead against Torquay United on the opening day of the Conference Premier season.
The home side started the match on the front foot, and it took just 18 minutes for last season's playoff runners-up to score their first goal of the campaign.
After some incisive build-up play, the ball was crossed into the penalty area for Lewis Guy to head home his first goal for the club.
Jon Shaw, who has arrived at Gateshead during the summer, was in the thick of the action and he twice went close to extending his new team's advantage as Torquay struggled to impose themselves on proceedings.
Gateshead's second goal came from the left foot of Marcus Maddison, who fired into the roof of the net from 18 yards.
