Rotherham United have beaten Tranmere Rovers 2-1 in this evening's League One match at Prenton Park, courtesy of a brace by Alex Revell.
After a quiet start to the game, the Millers thought they had taken the lead in the 11th minute after a Ben Pringle cross from the left-hand side was converted by Wes Thomas, but the referee disallowed the goal for offside.
Midway through the first half, Tranmere keeper Owain Fon Williams had to make several saves in quick succession, first from Thomas then from James Tavernier.
The away side took the lead in the 39th minute, as Kieran Agard marauded into the box before cutting the ball to Revell. The Cambridge-born forward then tucked the ball into the bottom corner.
A minute after the restart, the Millers had a great chance to make it 2-0, but Thomas fired wide from six yards. Not long after, Fon Williams had to be alert, saving from Agard, before Robert Milsom lashed the rebound wide.
Just before the hour, Steven Jennings won possession in the middle of the park and played a ball to Ryan Lowe, but Adam Collin was alert and raced off his line to collect.
Eventually, the Millers doubled their lead, Revell seizing on a failed Rovers clearance to fire home.
Midway through the second half, Mark Bradley crossed for Revell, who had a chance to secure his hat-trick but dragged his shot wide.
In the dying minutes of the game, the home side got a goal back, courtesy of Andy Robinson, who scored on the rebound following Ash Taylor's attempt.
A frantic finish followed, as the revitalized Rovers pushed on to grab an equaliser, but couldn't breach the away side's goal a second time.
