Former Manchester United and Liverpool striker Michael Owen was unable to secure a new club on transfer deadline day.
Owen was released by United this summer after three injury-plagued years at Old Trafford.
As the 32-year-old is a free agent, he is free to discuss terms with clubs beyond today's deadline.
Owen tweeted: "Nothing to confirm just yet, will be an interesting few days now that the transfer window has closed."
Clubs in England must submit their 25-man squad list on Tuesday.
The striker had been linked with moves to Everton and Stoke City.
