USA coach Jurgen Klinsmann has confirmed that Jozy Altidore will miss Thursday's crucial World Cup encounter with Germany while he recovers from a hamstring injury.
The striker has been out of action since suffering a strain during his team's opening win over Ghana.
Despite Altidore's absence against Germany, Klinsmann is hopeful that he will be back for the knockout stage should the USA get there.
"We'll have a good chance to have him back [in the last 16]," Klinsmann is quoted as saying by Newsday.com.
The Americans need one point against Germany to go through to the next round, but any kind of slip would give Ghana or Portugal the chance to progress.
