Villarreal boss Marcelino has criticised his team for their disappointing performance in Sunday's 2-0 defeat at Getafe.
Victory for the Yellow Submarine would have moved them into fifth position in the table, level on points with fourth-placed Celta Vigo.
Goals from Angel Lafita and Alvaro Vasquez condemned Villarreal to defeat, however, and Marcelino has said that his players 'thought they were better than they were' during the contest in Madrid.
"Football has its moments and we had two very clear chances to get ahead on the scoreboard. They took advantage of our error when they were clearly superior," Marcelino told reporters.
"It wouldn't have been given if we'd been intense [in our approach]. We also committed the sin of lacking intensity in our box for their second goal. In football, what matters is the result and to win you have to score.
"They were far more forceful than us and won fairly. Whenever you lose it upsets you, but I think we thought we were better than we actually were. To win in La Liga, it takes more than what we did today."
Villarreal have won just one of their last six games in the league.
