Moi Gomez scored twice as Villarreal thumped Real Sociedad 4-0 at El Madrigal on Sunday.

The youngster's late brace followed an own goal from Enaut Zubikarai and clever finish from Denis Cheryshev, with the result moving the Yellow Submarine into sixth spot in the La Liga table.

The defeat for Sociedad, meanwhile, was their first under new manager David Moyes.

VILLARREAL

Goal

Sergio Asenjo: Did not have much to worry about in terms of saves, but was confident and composed from high balls. Continues to look the part for the Yellow Submarine. (6/10)

Defence

Mario Gaspar: Could not find the back of the net despite a couple of half-chances, but was a constant menace to Sociedad in the final third of the field. (7/10)

Victor Ruiz: Made some crucial challenges in the first period, but had a very straightforward second half. Looked composed at the heart of the defence. (7/10)

Gabriel Paulista: Task was not made particularly difficult due to Carlos Vela's isolation, but the centre-back still put on a dependable and confident display. (7/10)

Jaume Costa: Was not as involved in the final third as Mario on the opposite side, but did venture forward in the second period - providing some telling crosses. (7/10)

Midfield

Bruno Soriano: Radiated class each time he had possession of the ball and opened the scoring with a free kick that bounced off the back of the Sociedad goalkeeper. (8/10)

Manu Trigueros: Had a couple of chances to add to the scoring, but could not find the back of the net. Aided his side with quick and clever passing in the middle of the park. (7/10)

Jonathan dos Santos: Very good evening for the Mexican, who thrived in a wide position. Delivered cross after cross and was always involved in the final third of the field. (8/10)

Attack

Denis Cheryshev: Scored his side's second with a clever finish after 73 minutes, before setting up Gomez with his seventh league assist of the season. (8/10)

Luciano Vietto: Rattled the post with two brilliant efforts, but could not find the back of the net. Was involved in absolutely everything, with Sociedad unable to cope with the Argentine. (8/10)

Ikechukwu Uche: Caused Sociedad problems with his pace and movement in the final third. Did not add to the scoring, but played a crucial role in the comfortable victory. (7/10)

Substitutes

Moi Gomez: Was only given the final 15 minutes, but made some impact. Immediately looked a threat and capped his impressive cameo with a late brace. (8/10)

Gerard Moreno: Another of the club's exciting youth products, Moreno entered after 82 minutes and showed some nice touches in the final third. (6/10)

Tomas Pina: Replaced Bruno after 84 minutes and kept things ticking over in midfield. (6/10)

REAL SOCIEDAD

Goal

Enaut Zubikarai: Made some really smart saves throughout the contest, but had an absolute stinker late on - allowing a tame effort from Gomez to drift under his body. (5/10)

Defence

Carlos Martinez: Had a solid first period - helping to restrict Villarreal to few clear chances, but like a number of his teammates, the defender struggled in the second 45 minutes. (6/10)

Inigo Martinez: Arguably his side's best defender on the night. Made a number of crucial challenges throughout the match, but needed more protection from those around him. (6/10)

Ion Ansotegi: Solid enough when the ball was in the air, but looked dangerously exposed when Villarreal broke with pace. Not a match the centre-back will remember too fondly. (5/10)

Alberto de la Bella: Lucky to remain on the field after a rash challenge on Vietto in the first period. Could not get forward as Villarreal dominated possession in the final third. (4/10)

Midfield

David Zurutuza: Tasked with providing support from a wide area, but really struggled to have any effect on the match. Was replaced after 77 minutes at El Madrigal. (5/10)

Esteban Granero: Had a fairly comfortable first period, but struggled to get close to the home side's midfield after the interval. Far from his side's worst player, though. (6/10)

Xabi Prieto: Seemingly given the licence to join Vela whenever possible, but never looked sure of his position. Did not have any effect on the match. (5/10)

Sergio Canales: Let his team down time after time from set pieces. Had plenty of free kicks in dangerous positions, but wasted possession on each occasion. (5/10)

Ruben Pardo: Plenty of energy and sharp passing in the first period, but looked off the pace in the early stages of the second and was replaced by Chorey Castro after 65 minutes. (5/10)

Attack

Carlos Vela: Somewhat surprisingly named without a striking partner. Did his best to make things happen in the final third, but was starved of any sort of quality service. (6/10)

Chory Castro: Was the first player to be called for, but did nothing to suggest he should have started. Was hardly seen during his 25 minutes on the field. (5/10)

Alfreo Finnbogason: Vela finally gained a striking partner after 77 minutes, but the Iceland international hardly featured in the latter stages of the contest. (5/10)

Pablo Hervas: Only given the final three minutes and therefore could not make an impact. (5/10)
