Villarreal moved out of the La Liga bottom three with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Sporting Gijon at El Madrigal tonight.
Goals from Marco Ruben, Borja Valero and Bruno Soriano earned the Yellow Submarines just their fourth win of the campaign and sent them above their opponents in the table.
After a goalless first half, Ruben put Villarreal in front with a 57th-minute effort before former West Brom midfielder Borja Valero doubled their advantage just a minute later.
The home side controlled the game throughout but were prevented from extending their advantage by some fine saves from Gijon keeper Juan Pablo.
Bruno Soriano completed the scoring with a third goal in the 90th minute as Jose Francisco Molina recorded his first win as Villarreal boss.
