Chris Coleman: 'Wales need to be streetwise'

Wales manager Chris Coleman calls on his players to be "streetwise" during their Euro 2016 semi-final against Portugal.

Wales manager Chris Coleman has called on his players to be "streetwise" when they take on Portugal in the semi-finals of Euro 2016.

Wales will appear in the last four of a major tournament for the first time in their history on Wednesday night having come from behind to beat Belgium 3-1 in the quarter-finals.

Much of the pre-match talk has centred around Real Madrid teammates Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo coming face to face, but Coleman insists that the game will be more than an individual battle between the two most expensive players of all time.

"Our boys will know about the opposition, we do our homework on every team. Both teams will do their homework on each other. We know their players individually and collectively. At this level, international football, someone makes a wrong decision and within two or three seconds you are behind in the game," he told reporters.

"It's about being streetwise at this level and we used to be far too honest. We've got better at that. Sometimes it's not very pretty, it can look ugly. Anything you need to do to stay in the game you do it.

"I think the key to winning the game is getting the game plan right and concentrating on ourselves. I don't think Gareth [Bale] needs to tell us about Cristiano Ronaldo, we've been watching him for long enough. It won't just be about one player, all our players know about their opposite numbers."

Wales would face either hosts France or world champions Germany in the final should they overcome Portugal.
