Stoke City boss Mark Hughes wants Chris Coleman to remain with Wales

Stoke City boss Mark Hughes calls on the FAW to do whatever it takes to secure the services of boss Chris Coleman for the nation's Euro 2020 campaign.

Stoke City boss Mark Hughes has admitted that he wants to see Chris Coleman remain as manager of Wales.

With the nation failing to qualify for next year's World Cup, Coleman's future is currently up in the air, and Sunderland have emerged as a possible destination for the Dragons manager.

However, Coleman has also insisted that he would like to stay in the dugout of his country, and Hughes hopes that a deal can be reached with the FAW.

The 54-year-old is quoted by BBC Sport as saying: "I would want him to stay. The success he's had in his position and the impact that he's had on Welsh football has been remarkable and clearly everyone in Wales wants that to continue.

"I am not privy to why it is taking so long and what Chris feels he needs to do to take the next step [in his managerial career].

"But I would like to think that if it was a financial issue or there was discussions to be had in terms of backroom staff, you'd like to think the FAW would push to keep them and go that extra mile for them because they deserve it because of the success they've had."

Hughes has previously managed Wales, with 12 wins and 15 draws being recorded from his 41 matches in charge between 1999 and 2004.
