Walsall have beaten Oldham Athletic 1-0 after a second-half goal from Sam Mantom at the Banks's Stadium, in a game which saw Saddlers goalkeeper Richard O'Donnell save a penalty from Adam Rooney in injury time.
Both teams went through the motions in the early stages, James Dayton attempting a shot from outside the box in the ninth minute. However, his effort for the away side was blocked.
A minute later, Charlie MacDonald was able to test the Saddlers keeper, but his shot was saved.
On the half-hour mark, Craig Westcarr's shot from outside the box was too high.
Towards the end of the half, both sides increased their tempo, but despite chances from Andrew Butler, Mantom and MacDonald, nobody could break the deadlock.
In the second half, a Dayton free kick from 30 yards was deflected onto the Saddlers post following a touch from O'Donnell, before Danny Philliskirk's rebound went wide.
The winning goal came in the 65th minute, as a loose ball fell to Mantom, who proceeded to strike from 15 yards.
With just 10 minutes left to go, Rooney fired wide from six yards.
The Latics had a great chance to equalise right at the death when Andy Taylor fouled James Wesolowski in the box, but O'Donnell ensured that his side would hang on to all three points by saving Rooney's effort.
