Watford defender Adrian Mariappa has turned down an offer to join Wigan Athletic, according to Sky Sports News.
The Latics were granted permission to discuss terms with the 25-year-old following an agreement with Watford earlier today.
However, it is believed that Mariappa has rejected Wigan's advances.
That news is expected to alert Newcastle United, who recently had a bid for the centre-back turned down.
