West Bromwich Albion midfielder Steven Reid insists that he would not have acted like his teammate Peter Odemwingie and is unsure if the forward will return to the first-team squad.

West Bromwich Albion midfielder Steven Reid has declared that he would not have behaved in the same way as teammate Peter Odemwingie and refused to be drawn on the striker's future at the club.

Odemwingie angered Baggies fans with his efforts to force through a move to Queens Park Rangers last week and was sent home by the club on Friday when he returned to the Midlands for training.

Reid has insisted that his side have enough quality and character to cope without the Nigerian forward if he does not return to first-team action at The Hawthorns.

He told The Mirror: "It is not the way I would go about doing things and I am sure that is not the way a lot of the other lads would.

"These things happen in football, not too often though. But we have a strong enough squad to deal with incidents like that. Maybe the group wasn't as strong as it was when I first joined but it definitely is now. That is why we are in the position we are in.

"There might come a point in the rest of the campaign when he is needed. We will have to see. It is up to the club how they deal with it. If it does happen then I am sure we will get on with it. But there are enough characters and leaders and good lads in the dressing room to get through it."

The 31-year-old was forced to train with the reserves on Monday after the first-team squad were given a day off following last weekend's 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
