West Ham United are through to the Europa League semi-finals after beating Lyon 4-1 on aggregate in the quarter-finals.

After drawing the first leg 1-1 in East London, goals from Craig Dawson, Declan Rice and Jarrod Bowen secured a comfortable 3-0 second-leg victory for the Hammers at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais on Thursday night.

David Moyes's men will now face Eintracht Frankfurt in the last four after the German side stunned Spanish giants Barcelona to win 4-3 on aggregate.

Lyon had their fair share of chances in the first half, with their best falling to Karl Toko Ekambi in the fifth minute when he skipped past Dawson on the edge of the area before seeing his drilled right-footed strike hit the inside of the post.

The hosts continue to probe in the final third and they posed a threat to West Ham's backline, but their inability to convert the plethora of chances that they created was punished by the Hammers, who scored twice in the closing stages of the first 45.

The deadlock was broken in the 38th minute when an in-swinging corner from Pablo Fornals was attacked at the near post by Dawson, who directed his header downwards into the bottom left corner.

Just six minutes later, West Ham doubled their lead when Emerson Palmieri's poorly-headed clearance fell to Rice on the edge of the area and the Hammers captain saw his deflected effort creep past Lyon goalkeeper Julian Pollersbeck.

In the second half, Moyes's men picked up where they left off in the first, with Jarrod Bowen adding a third just three minute after the restart, calmly placing a right-footed shot beyond Pollersbeck after Fornals had played him through on goal.

Lyon pushed to get back into the game, but West Ham were in control, defended resiliently and managed to see out a historic victory in the South of France.

The Hammers will play the first leg of their semi-final tie against Frankfurt at the London Stadium on April 28, before travelling to Germany for the second leg on May 5. body check tags ::
