Slaven Bilic: 'Video technology will stop refs being biased towards big clubs'

West Ham United boss Slaven Bilic says that video technology will stop referees from being unknowingly biased towards big clubs.

West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic has claimed that video technology will help stop referees from making biased decisions when it comes to officiating big clubs.

The Croatian coach believes that referees are unknowingly favouring bigger teams because of the negative reaction that could follow should they make a call that hampers the club involved.

Last weekend's 2-0 win for Chelsea over Arsenal at Stamford Bridge was marred by controversial decisions made by Mike Dean, who sent off defender Gabriel Paulista, but Diego Costa went unpunished during the game despite whacking Laurent Koscielny in the face.

"The big clubs are always getting decisions," Bilic told reporters in a press conference. "I don't think it is deliberate, but it is the same in Croatia, Spain, Germany and Turkey.

"The biggest clubs also have the biggest press. If they are not given a penalty it is a big scandal but if a small club is not given one it is shown at midnight and not prime time. That's why they are big clubs.

"It is impossible for referees to do everything right with the speed and movement so it is better to slow the game down for three seconds."

Bilic also claimed that managers should not be punished for speaking out against refereeing decisions after matches.
