David Moyes "thrilled" to leave Wembley Stadium with a point

David Moyes says that his West Ham United players deserve "great credit" for holding Tottenham Hotspur to a 1-1 draw at Wembley Stadium.

West Ham United boss David Moyes has admitted that he is "thrilled" to have come away from Wembley Stadium with a share of the spoils, having seen his side hold Tottenham Hotspur to a 1-1 draw.

The Hammers could well have snatched all three points against their London rivals, as it took an 84th-minute screamer from Son Heung-min to cancel out Pedro Obiang's equally-impressive goal.

Obiang's shot was West Ham's first of the evening, in a match dominated by top four-chasing Tottenham, but Moyes believes that his players deserve huge praise as they had little time to devise a gameplan due to their packed schedule.

"I'm thrilled to come away with a point, Spurs have some really exciting young talent, I have seen them beat Real Madrid here, beat teams by four or five," BBC Sport quotes him as saying. "We had no time to prepare, only this morning.

"Great credit to the players, we are having to work really hard. I was delighted we were having a shot! But it was more surprise and disbelief that we had taken the lead, Spurs had so many chances but there is another side to football if you haven't got the best players.

"I thought [Manuel] Lanzini was fouled in the build-up to their goal but I've had a look at it and the referee was right - it wasn't a foul.

"The club should have an idea of what is required in the transfer window, we need extra players. We need to balance the squad but it's not always possible."

West Ham, now 15th in the Premier League and two points clear of danger, head to Shrewsbury Town on Sunday for an FA Cup third-round tie.
