West Ham United ended 10-man Newcastle United's six-game winning streak this afternoon as Aaron Cresswell's strike secured them a 1-0 win at Upton Park.

The left-back tucked home after 56 minutes following Cheikhou Kouyate's misdirected shot, before Moussa Sissoko was shown two yellow cards in the space of a minute for kicking the ball away and a clash with Andy Carroll.

The result means that the Hammers climb back up to fifth in the Premier League table, while the Magpies slip to eighth place.

WEST HAM UNITED

Goal

Adrian: Newcastle mustered only one shot on target, so the Hammers goalkeeper had little to do. (6/10)

Defence

James Collins: Strong in the air and solid on the ground, rarely caught out of position. (7/10)

Carl Jenkinson: Solid enough, though largely unspectacular. Did not have too much to do. (7/10)

James Tomkins: Another Hammers defender to have a solid performance, he complemented Collins well and did not make many mistakes. (6/10)

Aaron Cresswell: A constant danger in attack, as shown by his well-taken goal, but also defended well when needed. (8/10)

Midfield

Cheikhou Kouyate: Very lucky to mishit his shot, only for it to fall perfectly to Cresswell, but not really one of his best performances this season. (6/10)

Stewart Downing: A lukewarm display from the England man, who lacked dynamism today. (5/10)

Mark Noble: West Ham's new Premier League appearance record holder was made captain for the day and led by example, putting in a solid shift. (7/10)

Morgan Amalfitano: Largely struggled today against a fairly solid Newcastle defence. (6/10)

Matt Jarvis: Not at his best. Had his moments, but was a tad inconsistent. (6/10)

Attack

Andy Carroll: A constant menace up front, he had plenty of chances to extend his side's lead. (7/10)

Substitutes

Kevin Nolan: Did not have much time to make an impact, but helped his side see the game out. (6/10)

Mauro Zarate: Provided spark to West Ham's front line after coming on for Jarvis. (7/10)

Rob Elliot: Tim Krul's deputy put in a good shift in between the sticks and cannot be blamed for Cresswell's goal. (7/10)

Daryl Janmaat: A fairly quiet game, but he did not do much wrong. (6/10)

Mike Williamson: Dealt well with Carroll, but was reckless at times, picking up a booking. (6/10)

Massadio Haidara: A good, energetic performance from the youngster, strong in defence and eager in attack. (7/10)

Paul Dummett: Gave a good account of himself in the face of West Ham's strong aerial presence. (6/10)

Midfield

Moussa Sissoko: Will not be happy with himself for the way that he was sent off, kicking the ball away to pick up a yellow and clashing with Carroll just moments later to see red. Arguably cost his side the game. (4/10)

Jack Colback: Controlled the tempo well and was instrumental in many of his team's forays into the opposition's final third. (7/10)

Cheik Tiote: Broke up play well and looked lively. Put in a decent shift. (7/10)

Yoan Gouffran: He never truly got into the game. A performance to forget for the Frenchman. (5/10)

Attack

Sammy Ameobi: Put in a lot of effort, but was toothless in the final third. (6/10)

Ayoze Perez: Not a very good afternoon up front for the Spaniard, who missed several gilt-edged chances. (5/10)
