West Ham United reportedly made a late attempt to sign former Liverpool striker Fabio Borini before his move to Sunderland yesterday.
The Hammers made a bid for the 24-year-old forward as he was discussing terms with the Wearside outfit, according to the Shields Gazette.
Borini will allegedly be Sunderland's last striking signing of the summer, while West Ham have just confirmed a second consecutive season-long loan deal for Barcelona midfielder Alex Song.
The report also suggests that the Black Cats will look to add a defender to their squad before the transfer window closes this evening, due to a six-week ankle injury sustained by full-back Adam Matthews.
