Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl is reportedly showing an interest in Nottingham Forest wide player Matty Cash.
With competition required for Yan Valery at right-back, the Saints have been tipped to push through a permanent deal for Tottenham Hotspur full-back Kyle Walker-Peters.
However, according to The Sun, Hasenhuttl may switch his attention to trying to sign versatile right-sided player Cash.
The 22-year-old, who can play at full-back and in midfield, contributed three goals and five assists from 42 appearances in the Championship this season.
Despite being regarded as a key man at the City Ground, Forest may be open to accepting a bid in the region of £12m.
West Ham United are also keen on Cash as they bid to find a replacement for Pablo Zabaleta and Jeremy Ngakia.
