West Ham United and Newcastle United are both reportedly interested in signing Mainz 05 forward Yoshinori Muto.
The Japan international has scored 20 league goals in 66 appearances for the German side after signing for them in 2015 from Tokyo.
According to German newspaper Bild, the 26-year-old has yet to report back to pre-season training as he is eyeing a move to England, with West Ham and Newcastle being likely destinations.
Muto is reportedly valued at £18m by Mainz, although his contract is set to run out next summer, meaning that the side could look to sell him this transfer window in order to receive a fee.
The Hammers are among the biggest spenders in the Premier League this summer, signing the likes of Felipe Anderson, Andriy Yarmalenko and Issa Diop, while the Magpies have so far brought in just Martin Dubravka and Ki Sung-yueng.
