West Ham United have completed the signing of centre-back Konstantinos Mavropanos from Bundesliga club Stuttgart.

The 25-year-old has put pen to paper on a five-year contract until June 2028 and joins the Hammers for a undisclosed fee believed to be an initial £17m plus £2m in add-ons.

Mavropanos, nicknamed 'Dinos' by his friends, family and temamates, becomes David Moyes's third signing of the summer transfer window after midfield duo Edson Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse, who both made their debuts in the 3-1 Premier League win over Chelsea on Sunday.

The 6ft 4in defender departs Stuttgart after three years with the German club, including the first two years on loan from North Londoners Arsenal, where he made only eight senior appearances between 2018 and 2020.

"I am really happy and excited to be here – and to be back in the Premier League with West Ham United," Mavropanos, who will wear the No.15 shirt, told the club's official website.

"It's an exciting time to be joining the club after last season's Conference League win – and I am really looking forward to the next step in my career. I can promise the fans I will give everything for them and the shirt."

Mavropanos will provide competition for fellow centre-backs Kurt Zouma, Nayef Aguerd, Thilo Kehrer and Angelo Ogbonna, and Moyes is pleased to have bolstered his squad with another central defender as the Hammers soon prepare to juggle domestic duties with Europa League football.

"I'm pleased to welcome Konstantinos to West Ham United," said Moyes. "We've been looking to add to our centre-half options this summer, so it's good we've been able to bring in an international defender of his ability. We're really looking forward to integrating him into the group."

West Ham stepped up their pursuit of Mavropanos earlier this month after a move for Manchester United defender Harry Maguire collapsed despite the Hammers agreeing a fee in excess of £30m with the Red Devils.

The 19-cap Greece international developed into a first-team regular with Stuttgart during his three years in Germany, making a total of 89 appearances across all tournaments including 26 Bundesliga starts last season.

Mavropanos, who also chipped in with eight goals during his spell at Stuttgart, could be in a position to make his West Ham debut when they travel to Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League on Saturday.

West Ham are now expected to prioritise the addition of an attack-minded player before the summer transfer window closes on September 1, with Ajax's Mohammed Kudus believed to be high on their list of targets.
