Sports Mole previews Monday's National League clash between Weymouth and Maidenhead United, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Looking to maintain their perfect start to the 2021-22 National League season, Maidenhead United travel to the Bob Lucas Stadium on Monday to battle against Weymouth.

On the other hand, the home side are yet to score a goal or pick up a point two games into the campaign and are in need of a pick-me-up.

Match preview

Having recorded an opening-day win over Halifax Town, Maidenhead made it two victories from as many matches courtesy of a 2-0 victory over Dover Athletic at York Road on Saturday.

Alan Devonshire's men got the job done in the opening period when goals from Josh Kelly and Sam Barratt five minutes apart proved to be enough.

The Magpies currently occupy third spot on the log and are one of five teams with an unblemished record after the first two rounds of matches.

Their next assignment is to avoid another defeat against an opposing side who have already emerged victorious in two previous meetings this year.

Overall, Monday's hosts have only emerged victorious in one of the last five clashes involving the teams which was a comprehensive 5-0 triumph back in 2009.

Weymouth were left empty-handed for the second game running following a narrow 1-0 loss to Grimsby Town at Blundell Park on Saturday.

With the scores level for the majority of the contest, John McAtee opened the scoring 15 minutes from time to decide a nervy affair in Cleethorpes.

Brian Stock's men, who finished 18th in their first National League season in 12 years last time out, currently find themselves languishing in the bottom three.

Despite scoring 11 times in four pre-season matches, the Terras have now failed to find the back of the net in any of their last four competitive outings dating back to last season.

Team News

Due to his side's problems in attack, Brian Stock might contemplate making some changes with the likes of Xander McBurnie pushing for a place in the team.

Following his summer move from Grimsby Town, Jamaican forward Ahkeem Rose has endured a frustrating start to his Weymouth career and he could be dropped to the bench.

Having scored in each of his opening two games for the visitors this term, 26-year-old Sam Barratt heads into Monday's game in fine form.

Unsurprisingly, Alan Devonshire named an unchanged starting lineup last time out and we expect him to stick with the same XI for the third game on the bounce.

Weymouth possible starting lineup:
Fitzsimons; Cordner, Robinson, Harfield, Morgan; Shields, McQuoid, Brooks, Goodship; Bearwish, Ash

Maidenhead United possible starting lineup:
Holden; Wells, Massey, De Havilland, Sheckleford; Senga-Ngoyi, Clerima, Adams; Kelly, Barratt, Blissett

We say: Weymouth 1-2 Maidenhead United

The visitors will hope to capitalise on their hosts' current struggles and claim all three points in this one. While we expect Weymouth to finally get on the scoresheet, we are backing Maidenhead United to maintain their 100% record with a narrow win.
