Former Wigan Athletic player Kevin Kilbane believes that Owen Coyle is the "perfect" replacement for Roberto Martinez at Wigan Athletic.
The Scotsman has agreed to take the reins at the Latics on a 12-month rolling contract following eight months out of work.
"The style does fit, it is right for me," Kilbane told BBC Radio Five Live. "He will get the full support from [chairman] Dave Whelan and it is the perfect fit. I think the fans have to be positive.
"They have always been great with the team, they are very loyal and stick with the team. They will be among the favourites to go up and they have a bit of money behind them but it is no easy task."
Former England manager Steve McClaren was also a candidate for the role.
