Reports this afternoon have claimed that Roberto Martinez has informed chairman Dave Whelan that he feels the time is right for him to leave Wigan Athletic.
The Spaniard's future at the DW Stadium has been the source of much speculation ever since the Latics were relegated from the Premier League earlier this month.
Late last week he met with Whelan, who revealed that Martinez would make a decision today.
The pair held further discussions this afternoon, where an emotional Martinez admitted to his chairman that he had decided to step down with immediate effect, according to Sky Sports News.
It is now believed that Everton will make a move to discuss their managerial vacancy with the 39-year-old, who despite the relegation, also guided Wigan to FA Cup success over Manchester City at Wembley.
