Dave Whelan has described Uwe Rosler as "absolutely magnificent" ahead of the first leg of their Championship playoff semi-final against Queens Park Rangers.
Rosler took over following Owen Coyle's dismissal in December, guiding Wigan to a fifth-placed finish in the Championship table.
The club's chairman told BBC Radio Manchester: "We had a very poor start to the season and I had no choice but to change managers. Since we changed manager, we've gone from strength to strength.
"Uwe has been absolutely magnificent. He did a great job at Brentford and he's doing exactly the same job with Wigan."
Both clubs were relegated from the Premier League last season.
