Wigan Athletic's Supporters Club has claimed that Malky Mackay's dismissal is a welcome decision among the fans, adding that former manager Paul Jewell would be an apt replacement.
The 43-year-old was relieved of his duties at the DW Stadium after their 2-0 defeat against Derby County on Monday left the club eight points adrift of safety in the Championship with five games left to play.
Spokesperson Caroline Molyneux told BBC Sport: "I think [Mackay's sacking] is a popular decision among the fans.
"I don't think anyone who is going to come in is going to be able to change what is going to happen, everyone is pretty much resigned to the fact that this is pretty much mission impossible.
"Paul Jewell is being mentioned [as a replacement]. That would be a popular decision."
Wigan continue their fight for Championship survival on April 10 when they make the trip to fellow strugglers Fulham.
