Mick McCarthy has passed on his best wishes to Terry Connor, who is in interim charge of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Connor was McCarthy's assistant during his spell at Molineux, which was ended when the former Republic of Ireland boss was sacked last month.
However, McCarthy is hoping that Connor can prove to be a success in the role and manage to keep the club in the Premier League.
"If Terry had left and they had appointed somebody new, I wouldn't have had such a vested interest in it," he told Sky Sports News. "But he is a really close family friend now, both himself and his wife are great pals. I have had even more of an interest in it, watching it and wishing him well, because I'd like to see him do well.
"We've had a great partnership together. His coaching is excellent, he puts fantastic sessions on.
"His approach to the game, I would say is similar to mine but not identical. We discussed everything, he has his ideas on his football. He's a good coach and a great lad."
Wolves have yet to win in four attempts under Connor's guidance.
