Richard Stearman: 'We need to cut out sloppiness'

Wolves defender Richard Stearman thinks his side will be "fine" if they eliminate "sloppy" concessions.

Wolves defender Richard Stearman has said his side will be "fine" if they stop conceding "sloppy" goals.

Mick McCarthy's men are currently one place outside the drop zone with a goal difference of -8 and just eight points from ten games.

Stearman, 24, said he was happy with the team's performance during their away trip to Man City at the weekend, which ultimately ended as a 3-1 loss.

"We were playing the top team in the Premier League and we took them right to the wire," he said. "We fancied ourselves to get the equaliser - if you look at our record this season, we're one of the best teams at coming back from going behind.

"We sensed something was coming but unfortunately we left the back door open at the end when we were pressing for a goal and I think we were a bit unfortunate. [But] if we continue to play like that and cut out the few sloppy goals we've conceded then we'll be fine."

Stearman called on the Molineux fans to rally behind the team when they take on bottom-of-the-table Wigan on Sunday.

"The fans were great again on Saturday and we're going to need them to continue being great," he added. "We've got a massive game against Wigan and hopefully they'll be right behind us like they always have been and hopefully we can get the win we need."
