Wolverhampton Wanderers have collected their fourth straight win in League One with a 3-1 victory over Port Vale.

Both teams cancelled each other out in what proved to be an insipid opening 45 minutes, with Wolves reduced to shooting from distance in a bid to open the scoring.

However, the deadlock was broken 11 minutes into the second half when Leigh Griffiths vindicated manager Kenny Jackett's decision to recall him to the starting XI by thumping past goalkeeper Chris Neal.

The hosts responded well to slipping behind and, if not for the dexterity of goalkeeper Carl Ikeme, would have provided an immediate riposte.

Doug Loft rose highest to reach Jennison Myrie-Williams's cross, but his header was expertly kept out by Ikeme to preserve his team's lead.

It would prove to be a valuable save, as substitute Bjorn Sigurdarson added a second on 74 minutes in fortuitious circumstances, as Neal parried an initial save, only for the rebound to brush off the Iceland international and trickle over the line.

Kevin McDonald was on hand to put the result beyond doubt in the dying embers, tapping home from close range to ensure a fourth straight victory for the West Midlands outfit.

Tom Pope grabbed a goal late on, heading home Loft's cross, but it was too little too late for the hosts.
