Wolverhampton Wanderers play out goalless draw with Burnley

Burnley's Championship clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers ends goalless.

Sean Dyche's Burnley side extended their unbeaten Championship run to seven games, but were held to a goalless draw by a spirited Wolverhampton Wanderers outfit at Molineux this afternoon.

Burnley began the game on the front foot and could have gone ahead when record signing Andre Gray saw his effort saved by Emiliano Martinez in the Wolves goal.

Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton was then called into action when he had to race off his line to clear James Henry's through ball as Dominic Iorfa lay in wait.

Sam Vokes was inches away from connecting with Joey Barton's cross midway through the first half, but there was little else in the way of goalmouth action in the opening 45 minutes as both defences shone.

Boyd found a way around the stubborn Wolves defence shortly after the restart and skipped clear of replacement goalkeeper Carl Ikeme, only to be flagged offside.

A slightly brighter second half then almost saw the deadlock broken when a loose ball fell to Benik Afobe in the Burnley box, only for the forward to curl an effort wide of the upright.

Afobe went close again when he headed Henry's cross inches wide, before Henry curled wide late on, but neither side did enough for the three points.

The result means Burnley fall out of the automatic promotion places and down to third in the Championship table, while Wolves remain in 14th place.
