Wolverhampton Wanderers have announced that Toti Gomes has committed his future to the club by penning a long-term contract.
Having arrived from Estoril in 2020 after just three appearances in the second tier of Portuguese football, the defender was regarded as one for the future.
However, helped by a 16-month loan stint at Swiss side Grasshopper Zurich, the 25-year-old has developed into a key player for Wolves.
Since making his debut for the West Midlands outfit in January 2022, Toti has gone on to make a total of 50 appearances in all competitions.
Although he was restricted to 17 outings in the Premier League last season, the one-cap Portugal international has relished the chance to feature regularly under Gary O'Neil.
Largely deployed on the left-hand side of a back three, Toti has made a total of 22 starts and three substitute outings since O'Neil's arrival in August.
Wolves have now moved to reward Toti with a new five-and-a-half-year contract, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2028-29 campaign.
Sporting director Matt Hobbs told the club's official website: "With Toti, what you get is someone who gives absolutely everything and provides different variation – his athleticism has given us real balance across the back. He's a great guy to have around, a really positive person, driven and a full international now.
"I say it a lot, because they're the type of people we want to bring in, but he's great around the place, while still having a huge amount of humility. He wants to be the best player he can be every single day and he trains well. To earn contracts here, people have to earn them with what they do on the pitch and off the pitch, and Toti's earned it.
"He'll want to kick on. He'll want to be a starter for Portugal, and he knows the best way to do that is putting in great performances with us. He knows he still has lots of things to do, but with his personality, he'll make sure he keeps striving. I've got no doubt that he'll keep improving for sure."
Toti will hope to continue his run in the first team on Saturday afternoon as Wolves play host to Brentford in the Premier League.
