Wolves 'enquire' about availability of Feyenoord defender

Wolverhampton Wanderers reportedly hold an interest in signing a defender from Feyenoord during the summer transfer window.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have reportedly identified a Feyenoord defender as a potential summer transfer target.

Having dropped down to 14th position in the Premier League standings during the run-in, Wolves' 2023-24 campaign ended in somewhat of a damp squib.

With supporters also left frustrated with owners Fosun International over their ticket pricing, there appeared to be little for the fanbase to get excited about heading into the off-season.

However, Fosun have reacted by conducting two pieces of early business, following the acquisition of Braga wide player Rodrigo Gomes by beating Chelsea to Sport Recife prospect Pedro Lima.

As a result, optimism is steadily increasing ahead of 2024-25, but Wolves will also need to strengthen in the centre of the pitch to close the gap on the top 10.

Wolves ready to move for Feyenoord man

According to 1908.nl, Wolves have enquired over the availability of Thomas Beelen.

The centre-back has just made a total of 19 starts and seven substitute outings in all competitions this season, the majority of which came after the turn of the year.

Beelen did not feature in a single defeat across 90 minutes from January onwards, most notably completing the 6-0 demolition of Ajax in April.

He has also previously represented PEC Zwolle, yet his most recent performances seem to have put himself in the shop window for clubs on the continent.

Having only signed for Feyenoord last July, the 23-year-old still has a contract until 2027, something which keeps his club in a strong position with regards his future.

Why Wolves may need a new centre-back

With Yerson Mosquera an option to return to Molineux after his hugely-successful stint on loan at Villarreal, there is already the prospect of Wolves being stronger at the back.

However, West Ham United - now managed by former Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui - are showing a concrete interest in acquiring the services of Max Kilman.

While it is yet to be determined whether the Hammers are prepared to pay at least £40m for the Wolves captain, Lopetegui is known to be an admirer.

If Wolves can sign an alternative for considerably less than half the fee that they would recoup for Kilman, a sale is not beyond the realms of possibility.

Santiago Bueno, Toti Gomes and Craig Dawson are the other options that Gary O'Neil currently has at his disposal. body check tags ::
