Wolverhampton Wanderers are thought to have failed with a deal to bring Spanish striker Kike to Molineux ahead of the transfer deadline.
The Midlands side had agreed a fee of £2m with Championship rivals Middlesbrough for the 26-year-old, although the uncertainty surrounding Boro's capture of Jordan Rhodes proved a sticking point in Kike's transfer.
Despite Rhodes now officially joining the Championship promotion hopefuls, the Express & Star reports that the deal for Kike will still not go ahead.
Manager Kenny Jackett had also been targeting the deadline-day capture of West Bromwich Albion left-back Sebastien Pocognoli but is now expected to pursue the defender when the emergency loan window reopens next week.
