How Wolverhampton Wanderers could line up next season

Sports Mole looks at how Wolverhampton Wanderers could line up during the 2020-21 campaign.

Wolverhampton Wanderers will certainly be one of the clubs hoping that the 2019-20 campaign can resume.

Nuno Espirito Santo's side are currently sixth in the Premier League table, just five points off fourth-placed Chelsea with nine matches of the campaign left.

Only Liverpool (1) have lost fewer Premier League matches than Wolves (6) this season, with the former Championship club again impressing throughout the campaign.

The club will again be looking to kick on next season, though, and with that in mind, Sports Mole looks at how Nuno's side could line up next term.

There is no question that Wolves will be looking to improve their squad this summer, but the club will also be determined to keep hold of a number of key players.

Indeed, Diogo Jota, Adama Traore, Raul Jimenez and Ruben Neves have all been strongly linked with moves away from Molineux. All four, with respect to Wolves, will feel that they can play at a higher level, but Nuno's side are sure to fight hard to keep them at the club during this summer's transfer window.

If that is the case and the former Championship winners can add some quality then there is a chance that the team could make a serious assault on the top four during the 2020-21 campaign.

Rui Patricio, Willy Boly and Conor Coady should all feature in next season's XI, but there could be a new face at the back with Galatasaray's Christian Luyindama being strongly linked with a switch. The 26-year-old, who has also been linked with West Ham United, has been on the sidelines with a serious knee injury this season but is thought to be closing in on a return to fitness.

Jonny and Matt Doherty should again feature in the wing-back positions, but there could be a new player in the middle of the park with James Rodriguez being linked with a switch to Molineux. The Colombian appears likely to leave Real Madrid this summer, although Everton and Arsenal are also being linked with a move.

Alongside Neves, James could form a very exciting midfield two. There is enough defensive support behind them to allow the duo to influence matters in the final third and should Jota, Jimenez and Traore all remain then there will be plenty for the Wolves supporters to be excited about next season.

Jota has 15 goals and six assists to his name this term, Jimenez 22 goals and 10 assists, while Traore has contributed six goals and 10 assists. All three are thought to be targets for some of Europe's biggest clubs, but Wolves are certainly a team heading in the right direction under a very talented head coach.
