Football Association chairman Greg Dyke has revealed that Sepp Blatter's eight-year ban from football could pave the way for England to make another bid to host the World Cup.

England failed in their bid to host the 2018 tournament as Russia comfortably won the vote and the FA said that it would not pursue another bid as long as Blatter and the "bunch of crooks" that decided the 2018 and 2022 (Qatar) World Cups were in charge.

However, now that Blatter and UEFA president Michel Platini have been banned from football activity, Dyke is open to the idea of trying to host the tournament again.

"There is nobody who wouldn't love to have the World Cup in England but the process has to be done in a fair, honest and transparent way, not carved up by a bunch of crooks which is what happened last time," Dyke told PA.

"If you look at past World Cups, one after the other you have to ask if you could have won a World Cup bid without being suspect.

"I think it's the end for Blatter whatever happens in the appeals process. The important thing is that we never get anyone with the same sort of power that Blatter had again."

The USA are favourite to host the 2026 tournament, so a shot at the 2030 tournament is said to be England's next best bet.

England have previously hosted the tournament just once, in 1966, when the Three Lions recorded their only major tournament triumph.
