FIFA announce that Qatar will remain the hosts of the 2022 World Cup, but a taskforce is to be set up to discuss moving the tournament from summer to winter.

FIFA have announced that the 2022 World Cup will be staged in Qatar, despite calls for the tournament to be moved.

There have been concerns over the global competition being hosted in the Middle East due to the extreme heat in the summer months, as well as allegations over the treatment of migrant workers.

However, following a two-day meeting in Zurich, FIFA officials have confirmed that Qatar will remain the host country, but there is still a possibility that the tournament could be moved from summer to winter.

President of the world governing body Sepp Blatter has revealed that a taskforce will be assembled to look into alternative dates for the 2022 World Cup.

"Because there has been a great deal of noise we have decided now there should be a consultation where we will bring together all the organisations dealing with the organisation of the World Cup," said Blatter.

"We will talk to the leagues, players and clubs but there are other stakeholders and these are economic stakeholders and we should take into account the obligations we have to them. Therefore there has to be a deep consultation and a large one with great attention and diplomacy."

A final decision will not be made before the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
