Formula 1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone has said that double points are unlikely to be awarded in the final race in the 2015 season.

Ecclestone, who had originally proposed that the final three races should be worth twice as much as the others, has also branded the teams "bloody idiots" for their refusal to accept the initial suggestion.

Although drivers will gain double points at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix next weekend, he does not know whether the system will still be in place next year.

"One race is stupid, but imagine if it was the last three races," he told The Independent.

"It means that somebody would have to have a 150-point advantage minimum to be sure they will win. The teams have not accepted it because they are bloody idiots. They are all mechanics. They think of their team in the short term.

"I'm not going to propose the three races again. I'm going to let them get on with it. I don't know what we're going to do next year."

Ecclestone recently suggested that 'F1 doesn't need young fans'.
