Fernando Alonso extended his lead at the top of the driver rankings thanks to his victory at the German Prix this afternoon.
The Ferrari driver now holds a 34-point advantage over second placed Mark Webber, who finished the race in eighth.
Having started in pole position, Alonso led for large parts of race, only letting his grip slip when world champion Vettel took to the front during the early stages.
Vettel eventually ended the race in second place following a successful overtaking manoeuvre on McLaren's Jenson Button with just two laps remaining.
That forced Button to accept the final spot on the podium, while his teammate Lewis Hamilton was forced to retire during the 59th lap.
