Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso set the pace in Barcelona for the first practice session ahead of Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix.
The 30-year-old, who won the Malaysian Grand Prix in March, topped the standings with Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel setting the second quickest time.
Kamui Kobayashi found himself third in the table for Sauber, with McLaren's Jenson Button clinching the fourth fastest pace in Spain.
Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton dropped down to eighth quickest with Nico Hulkenberg grabbing the 10th spot in the first practice of the day.
The second session in Barcelona is due to go ahead at 1pm UK time.
