Championship leader Sebastian Vettel reached the finish line in the fastest time during the second practice in Italy.
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton beat the Red Bull racer in the first practice of the day by one second.
The 26-year-old failed to increase his time and fell 0.036 seconds behind Vettel’s 1.24.010 lead, while Mercedes' Michael Schumacher placed in third.
Hamilton’s McLaren teammate Jenson Button slipped to seventh place while Brazil’s Bruno Senna was the last to cross the finish line at Monza.
